This beautiful southwestern Day of the Dead sugar skull is handcrafted in Mexico. This skull is hand painted ceramic and one of the favorites among day of the dead memorabilia. So popular in the southwestern United States, this is a classic painted skull that reflects a rich culture begun by the ancient Aztecs.
Each year on November 2nd, Mexican families celebrate their deceased loved ones by visiting their graves with colorful decorations, food and drink. Skulls are used as traditional decorations to celebrate the day. This is a custom that began with the early Aztecs using real skulls. Today, they are beautifully hand painted pottery art also used for southwest decor.
