These stunning ancient stone shells are genuine fossilized sand dollars, also called sea cookies, direct from the island of Madagascar and polished for a sleek look.
 
These fossilized sand dollars are collected from the beaches of Mahajanga, and can be traced back to the mid Jurrasic time period (about 160 million years ago) when the ancient oceans were teeming with life forms, now extinct. Once a living organism, these sand dollars were turned to stone through petrification, a process that replaces organic matter with sediment and minerals over millions of years. 
 
These fossilized sand dollars are perfect to display on any office desk or bookshelf, and will also make great gifts.
 
Measure between 2.5"-3.5" wide. Each sand dollar fossil is natural and unique.
