Hang A Beautiful Dream Catcher For Great Southwest Style

Native American Dream CatcherOne of the most symbolic items of the Native American people is the dream catcher. It is believed that a dream catcher placed above the area where one sleeps, will filter out the bad dreams while permitting the good dreams to flow through.

When dreams flow though a dream catcher, the good dreams enter the hole in the center, and flow down the feathers to the person sleeping below. Bad dreams are caught in the webbing, and released with the rising of the sun.

Dream catchers have come to be known as a unifying symbol of the many different Native American tribes, and the Native culture as a whole. The dream catcher’s origin, however, began with the Ojibwe, and eventually spread to other tribes through marriage and trade.

Mothers and grandmothers would make dream catchers to place on the beds of those that slept, usually children, to keep bad dreams away.  A traditional dream catcher is made with sinew strands, and tied in a web around a small round or tear shape frame.  There are many colors and styles found, but symbolic feathers and beading are characteristics of a traditional dream catcher.

For those that love Native American culture and southwest decorating, the dream catcher is the perfect accent for any home, office or cabin.  Hang a beautiful dream catcher in any room to give your living space great southwestern style.
