This is a beautiful southwestern Day of the Dead skull. Handcrafted in Mexico, this skull is hand painted ceramic, one of the favorites among Day of the Dead memorabilia. So popular in the southwestern United States, this is a classic painted skull that reflects a rich culture begun by the ancient Aztecs.
Each year on November 2nd, Mexican families celebrate their deceased loved ones by visiting their graves with colorful decorations, food and drink. Skulls are used as traditional decorations to celebrate the day. This is a custom that began with the Aztecs using real skulls. Today, they are beautiful hand painted pottery art also used for southwest decor.
